4/52 LET THERE BE SUN

4/52

Sunshine? In Southern California? Heck, we are seasoned Storm chasers equipt with our very own tornados! I tried to capture our week, staring out the window as we watched our neighbors trash cans float by. The many tears that were shed for the people of Haiti. The sad dog I had staring at me for a walk.  Although all of this was a huge part of the past week, A happy sunny photo is what I choose to post.  I had this overwhelming urge to enjoy what our City had to offer, so my husband and I took Colin on the beach trail twice today to take in how lucky we are. We let the Sunshine dissolve our thick outer coats we had grown, and let the sea spray remind us what a wonderful place we live in. Colin learned how to ride his bike without training wheels… I know this photo will make me cry someday… what a sweet face…

3/52… A BIT harder than I thought… choosing one photo per week is testing my word. We had an amazing week! Filled with playing with friends, going to the discovery center and Pretend city and (Im almost certain to loose 80% of readers here) MONSTER JAM! Yes.. the very budlight with peanuts and belly shirt Monster Jam you are picturing!~ My son loves collecting Big monster truck toys such as “Grave Digger” “Blue Thunder” and “Monster Mut” … well let me just say that hearing a four year old scream from the top of his lungs “GO GRAVE DIGGER” is the cutest thing ever.  This event was sold out by the way; we werent the only ones who thought watching big trucks smash small cars is entertaining!~ To all of you who still respect me, thank you and maybe we can all go tailgating next year!

How does the saying go? When life gives you lemons… Well we have a whole citrus garden that has been ignored,,,, needless to say there were about 10,000 lemons waiting for some kind of fate other than compost.

“What do you want to do today Colin”

“Make Lemonade, ofcorse…”

So…. ofcorse that is what we did!

WEEK 1. SNOWPLAY

My family, sister and future brother in law went to Snowplay in Big Bear this week. What a fun place! 25.00 per adult and kids are free. There are 7 slides and although I was shaking in my snow boots at the top… it really wasnt all that scary ( I had to look at the 2 year olds going head first laughing as they plumeted downthe hill to gather my bravery) Colin took to the snow and loved every minute. That is until he got tired, cold and hungry… So we left a dusk; turned on the heater, found an In and Out and everything was right in the world again…

This year I will attempt something I have wanted to do for years now… I want to chronicle my family life with a photo a week. This photo will sum up the best or worst of the week, one a week…. 52 weeks in a year…. 52 ways I see my family. I want to capture the essence of everyday and the beauty of being real. Wish me luck, this could be humbling! ~

ALOHA SPIRIT

Keeping aloha alive

Kona left my whole family once again with the true sense of Aloha. My New Years resolution is to keep that Aloha feeling everyday. Any one who knows me expects to see a tan line from my camera strap and knows I’m lying when I say I took “some” Photos on vacation. The truth is I truly expect to wake up one morning in the recovery room with a kind nurse telling me that they have successfully removed the canon from my right hand. It has become part of me. While I was in Hawaii I realized that one of the reasons I love photography is because it helps to keep resolutions, feelings reincarnated and memories alive. Sitting in the coarse sand watching my son and husband grow gills; I took a deep breath in of the salty air, closed my eyes and opened my ears.. I heard them laugh, saw them smile and felt the wonderful sting of the day on my face. I tried to imprint that moment in my brain. Then I remembered my camera by my side… “Colin, show mommy the Shaka” With a smile and a gratifying look I had successfully imprinted this moment for me to look back on… an Aloha moment to view… a motivating image for me to keep my new years resolution. Thank you Photography, thank you Colin and RC… and thank you God for the wonderful memories.
